One of the top choices for foreigners coming to the United States for short or long term. Account requirements include valid photo ID (preferably passport), second form of ID (foreign debit, foreign credit, drivers license, govt photo ID), opening deposit, and something with your name and a US address (proof of residence). This last requirement is flexible and depending on the branch, you shouldn’t have a problem. They do not require a copy of your proof of residence, it is only to prove that you will not close your account in a week, when your vacation is over.

Another big bank that offers accounts to non-residents is Chase. They have a decent reputation and are preferred over Bank of America if you will be making many different overseas transactions, especially large wires. Account requirements include valid photo ID (preferably passport), second form of ID (foreign debit, foreign credit, drivers license, govt photo ID), opening deposit, and something with your name and a US address (proof of residence). Chase is less flexible than most banks that offer accounts to foreigners, but once you get past their requirements, it is a solid account.

  • minimum deposit $25.00

  • monthly maintenance fee $12.00

  • Documents: Passport, second form of id, and proof of residency

  • must have a valid us address
